#1 Cabela's

Cabela's 80,000-sq.-ft. retail showroom serves outdoor enthusiasts in the Tennessee Valley. Located in the Parkside Town Centre at 7090 Cabela Drive NW Huntsville, Alabama (close by to Bridge Street Town Centre). With their top selection of everything fishing, hunting, boating, and camping, Cabela’s is the store with it all. If you love Bass Pro-Shop then Cabela’s is your go to place for your outdoor sports. They also have a small eatery there in case you lose track of time and forget to eat.

#2 Academy Sports + Outdoors

Academy Sports + Outdoors is located in multiple areas throughout the Tennessee Valley. They have a large selection of fishing and hunting equipment along with a wide selection of accessories. Their fishing tackle and hunting accessories are huge compared to Walmart but still keeping their prices comparable, if not cheaper.

With multiple locations in the valley area, Dick’s Sporting Goods is another great place to find your fishing, outdoor equipment and camping gear. While they're hunting gear is somewhat limited, they do have carry many top brands and their prices are always competitive.

#5 Buster's Bait and Tackle

If you are looking to fish with live bait, Busters is the place for you. It’s a full service Tackle Shop for live bait, artificial bait, rod repair, eye and tip repair. Their live bait includes; large shiners, minnows, worms, and crickets.

Active Wear

#1 Academy Sports + Outdoors

Academy Sports have the top selection on well-known sporting brands with reasonable prices for active wear. In my opinion, there is no better place to shop for adult and children’s sporting and tennis shoes. Forget Payless or Shoe Carnival, Academy Sports prices are so much more reasonable for quality shoes than many of the shoe stores located in the Huntsville area.

#2 REI

REI is a favorite among backpackers, campers and hikers, especially for their top-brand gear and clothing. Their selection is undeniably top of the line. Some of their top brands include: Columbia, Osprey, Gregory, North Face, Deuter, Nemo, Kelty and their own popular brand, REI Co-op.

My top choice for fitness equipment is Huntsville Fitness Equipment. They have been serving the Huntsville area since 2004 and have stores located in both Huntsville and Birmingham. They are a full-service fitness provider, selling everything from commercial fitness equipment to residential home gyms. They also provide home repairs, delivery, maintenance and initial setup on all your equipment.

With a few locations throughout the valley area, Dick's Sporting Goods is another top selection for your fitness equipment. While they do not sell commercial equipment, they do have the top of the line residential products. From quality workout equipment, to sporting goods and to active wear, Dick’s large selection makes them a well-worth choice to find your sporting good needs.

#1 Blevins Bicycle Company

Blevins Bicycle Company is the cream of the crop when it comes to professional quality bikes and service! They have all the bells and whistles and a large selection of top of the line racing and non-professional bikes. They can repair almost anything that has 2 wheels. Their service is outstanding and are pleasantly patient explaining and answering all your questions.

Trailhead is located at the historic Lowe Mill. They offer a great selection of bikes with pros to help guide and professionally fit you. Not only are they known for their excellent customer service, but they offer a great selection of mountain bikes at great prices.

REI of MidCity offers top-brand bikes, accessories and clothing. While they carry an amazing selection of bikes, their biking gear is limited compared to other biking stores. According to REI, if you join the REI Co-op community you’ll receive an annual dividend, access exclusives and give backs. Lifetime membership is just $20 which includes opportunities for organize cycling trips and classes.
